HERITAGE

Our Upper Houghton property has been restored, modernised and prepared by one of Johannesburg finest architects. It is easy to imagine that being there, if only for a few hours, will enhance one’s sense of purpose and one’s quality of thinking.

Upper Houghton itself has been declared a national heritage area. The first house in the area was built in 1902 in St Patrick’s Road – not far from where we are. Architect Rocco Bosman realised that the properties – “beautiful, historic houses” – had to be conserved and suggested that the whole suburb become a heritage site.

The views from Munro Drive are timeless and classic, looking out over Houghton Estate, Rosebank, and Sandton, all the way to the Magaliesberg mountains on the horizon.

On your way to 66 St John’s you may drive past St John’s College – surely one of the most magnificent schools in the world. And while you are with us, you will look across at the oak-lined playing fields of its arch-rival, King Edward VII School, possibly hearing the sounds of a rugby game in progress.
